A New American Musical

SID

Make Me One with Everything

An Inner and Outer Space Odyssey

A Transcendental Rock Opera

BOOK, MUSIC & LYRICS BY ROBERT WARD

SID is a transcendental musical journey of a young man’s road trip to enlightenment that begins in the 1950s and culminates in 2025. The musical, created by Robert Ward, was inspired by Herman Hesse’s novel Siddhartha that was all the rage with the 50’s & 60’s American counter-culture movement.  (Show songs are quoted and in italics herein)

In Act 1, our hero Sid is a young poet and musician living in his 1950’s “Model Citizen” midwestern home, when he runs away to the 60’s Haight-Ashbury Beat Movement, just as it gives way to the new hippie-culture burgeoning into the “Summer of Love”.

In Act 2, Sid heads East to India to explore those “wide-open, inner spaces” of his mind and heart, where he meets “The Amazing Daddy-o B”. He soon comes back to a 70’s America where he establishes “Sid’s Soul Kitchen” which becomes a hip New Age destination. He eventually loses himself in the excesses of 80’s American capitalism, goes broke, and is on the streets after Black Monday, 1987. Sid’s spiritual path is then rekindled, and he eventually finds his way during a NASA space flight to the International Space Station. And it is there, walking in space, that he discovers “It’s A Beautiful Earth Out Tonight”, finally realizing the inner experience he’s been seeking all along to “Make Me One”.
